How should I even start or prepare myself?

Read the sidebar. Read it again. You say you're nervous about how things will go and that's understandable, but stop it. It's a big adventure, treat it as such. The correct frame of mind is you're going to come here and be social. Join as many on campus social groups as you can, while still leaving time to crush your CS classes. Play some kind of intramural coed sport.

What kind of guys do girls of the country like?

There are roughly 35 million women between 18-24 in the US, so abundance is not an issue... they like the same things that women do the world over... Confidence, humor, attitude, a bit of indifference, looks, physique, What do they dislike? Neediness, being overly available, boring, or controlling. Did I say "read the sidebar?"

I know that the Indian image is not so good there and it is worsened by the fact that I will in CS dept. How should I counter this?

You can't do anything about being Indian. What you can do is be social and join social groups. It's a numbers game... don't sit in your dorm and whine about not meeting women, rather go out and be the guy with a huge circle of friends.

Get out of your comfort zone. Don't specifically join CS groups or gravitate towards people of your own ethnicity. Find socail groups that you wouldn't necessarily join. Start from day one. Your first week or two will define how your entire year goes. People fall into routines, and that includes who they hang out with, so make it a point to talk to anyone and everyone in the first few weeks.

Whether or not you're into sports, support your team, attend games and sit in the student section. Plan going to football/basketball/etc with your social circle. Sit in the student section. Pregame with friends. Postgame with people you meet at the game.

If you're in a dorm, try to pick a racially diverse, coed dorm. Sit with different people at lunch, keep your dorm room door open as much as possible, be visible and outgoing. Join study groups for the classes that you're taking each semester. Don't go places solo if you can avoid it. "Hey, I'm heading down to ____, want to come along?" works wonders. Read the school paper, find social events, invite others.

What do I do when I can't find girls in my own classes?

If you widen your social circles like I suggested above, it won't be an issue if you can't find girls in your own classes. Get to know people, make plans to meet up with people for lunch, computer lab, library time, whatever...

The wider you make your social circle in the critical first few weeks, the more parties, events, etc. you will be invited to. Don't sit on your ass. Be that entertaining guy that everybody knows. You'll have a great time.
