I usually say fuck it and end the date in like 30 minutes. lol
This isn't the right thing to do though. It's hard (for me) to tell apart shyness from disinterest, hence why I remarked "remember escalating".

Some conversations I like to have are a bit too nerd or phony. Food, that leads perfectly into traveling. Or literature. My city has an amazing cultural circuit I used to mention or even set a date, shit like that.
I used to think that this sort of stuff would give me status value, and it seems it does, but no matter that the girl is interested in the subject and in myself, it's hard to actually have conversations on a specific subject you don't understand. So the girl would be non responsive, I'd assume she was "annoyed by myself and the best traits I had to show" and give up.
These days I only pick up on music, professions, or movies. But you can try with whatever you want, maybe you can find a line.

There's some little questions that are gold for building some intimacy too, pua has lots of them. "Hey, if you could wake up tomorrow at any place, where would you wake up?"
