I'm usually not one to pay attention to this stuff, but recently I've noticed this weird pattern with older people, especially men. It's almost like they want to one-up me, although I didn't instigate any sort of competition to begin with.

Couple of examples, first my neighbor started humble bragging about his sons (they are around my age, I'm 27) and then about renovations done in his house and how cool it is that he has a heated garage now. Personally I couldn't I couldn't give a flying fuck if he owned a pet tiger. This happened when I was grabbing my mail and he was outside doing whatever.

Another occasion was when an acquaintance invited wife and I for a trip to a town nearby, they had extra tickets for an event. Hotel was sold out, but I offered to book us rooms because I was able to through my rewards account. They insisted they had a hook up and ended up booking some over priced rooms (I could have gotten them for free pretty much). Just seemed off.

Anyways, this kinda ticked me off and I figured I'd ask here, what kind of behavior is this and should I just ignore it?
