Good. This is exactly how 1st year university students should approach it. Meet everyone you can.

So? Dude, 1 in 4 people you meet in life are going to hate you for no reason at all. It's just a fact. All you can do is meet as many people as you can, and work with the 3/4 that do like you. You're never going to be everything to everyone, nor should you try.

I talked to them had nice discussion about THEM and all, but if I don't greet them they make quick glance toward me with a blank face and ignore me, I don't want to run after everybody.

So? You don't need to have long ass conversations with everyone you've ever met before every time you see them. If they turn and look, just say 'what's up' and carry on. Don't overthink this shit, man.

Some people will hate it.

I once asked my wife how does she feel and she literally exploded with anger. Therapist then commented, that some of us really don't want to analyze our own situations.

Imagine you are being through some serious shit and a joyfull, seemingly problem-less fella approaches you and says "HI! How are you doing!" with a wide smile.

Good that you approach people, good that you talk with them, good that you're social. I'm doing that too.

This year I realized, that if I called my friend 10 times and he called me 0 times, this is not a real friendship or a relationship. I stopped calling such people, even if I somehow like them. I'm saving my time for people I care about AND/OR TRP subs, because I'm hitting my keyboard like crazy tonight, because of respect and being grateful.

Read body language. Don't try to get everyone to like you. And, some people are going through serious shit... and some people just want to be lousy victims and they won't leave victim role, NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO.
