To the men in here who have a good grasp on stoic principles:
I was really close to this one dude for a few years. There's like 4-5 guys in our group.
Progressively he's become more female. A gossip. He won't try to sabotage anyone. He's just a beta who spent too much time around women and acts like them a lot.
I brought this pack together. The rest of the guys are solid men I met in school who work hard and have good values.
They take this fucko for who he is, have a good time, treat him like a little brother, and just stay above it. Meanwhile I can't help but feel disappointed around him and let it get to me.
“Begin each day by telling yourself: Today I shall be meeting with interference, ingratitude, insolence, disloyalty, ill-will, and selfishness ... But for my part I have long perceived the nature of good and its nobility, the nature of evil and its meanness, and also the nature of the culprit himself, who is my brother...therefore none of those things can injure me, for nobody can implicate me in what is degrading."
The one time I talked about it to one of my boys, he said confidently, "that's just who he is. We're all boys and I accept him and keep doing me."
This is the first time where I had to practice the confidence that comes with tolerance.
Anyone have a similar story? I figure there's a lifelong lesson in tolerating those who don't totally have the same values as you. I would only burn a bridge if that person is intentionally trying to hurt me.
