Schedules can be helpful but don't overdo it.

I find it's a lot easier to have a daily requirement for a lot of things rather than a set schedule. Go to the gym whenever rather than go to the gym at 4:30.

You tend to settle into a natural one anyway as everything lines up with everything else.

In my experience plans wont be very useful because at some point circumstances will mess with your schedule, it was a form of procrastination for me because I subconsciously realized that but never really let it get through my head until after a while.

However, I do have to consider one can do it better than me, in that case, just like Apexk9 said, pencil and paper, please do let me know how planning out a year works out for you.
