Starting day game slow?

Don't half-ass day game. Talk to people for real. If it goes badly, it goes badly. Stroking your ego because this one time, you said one innocuous thing to this one girl and she smiled is stupid. That's not a slow start to day game. That's not even small talk.

That was a decent start to what could have been an interaction with a woman. Day game is a little different from picking up a girl at a bar. That same woman who's going to put on a short dress, go to the club, drop all inhibitions, flirt like the sluttiest woman on earth, and have sex with a stranger tonight, a mere 6 hours from when someone like you might see her in a store, is going to be a closed-off, guarded, prudish bitch when you see her in that store.

So if you just walk up and say hi, unless you're really, really cute, she's going to wonder what the hell you want. If you walk up and ask her a personal question about something she's doing, that's going to put her on guard, too. A better way to open things is to ask an informative question or tell her something informative. For example, asking a woman if the organic eggs she's buying really taste better than regular eggs would be better than asking if she likes eggs or if she bakes. "You have a leaf in your hair" is fine. The goal is to small-talk for about 2 minutes, without asking personal questions or divulging personal information.

If she hasn't blown you off in the first 2 minutes and hasn't been answering everything you say with 1-2 word quips, but actually seems interested, that's when you keep the conversation open by dropping little lines she might ask follow-up questions about, or segueing your egg question into whether she bakes. By the 5-10 minute mark, unless you're somewhere where sitting down and having a conversation with a stranger is ordinary, get out of there. It's weird to have a long conversation in the milk aisle of the supermarket. Mention that you need to go get back to whatever you were doing and say that she seems nice/fun/some other adjective that fits your conversation, and you should get a drink sometime, what's your number. That's not something that should be giving you butterflies or making you worry about looking creepy. It is 100% normal and expected that a guy who meets a girl somewhere and chats for 5-10 minutes would ask for her number if he likes her. It's actually kind of weird if he doesn't. If she has a boyfriend or if she's not interested, she'll tell you then, and that's no big deal. You just say no problem. It was good talking to you. Enjoy the rest of your day. And you go on with your business.

In your specific case, dress well when you go out. Not a suit or anything, but dress fashionably in a way that shows off that you work out, and always look presentable. I've found that most guys have a really hard time dressing casually, yet presentably. They look fine at the gym. They look fine at work. They look fine in a suit. But dressing in a casual yet presentable way for running errands on a Saturday is hard for some reason.

Also in your specific case, don't hit on young-looking women when you're 18.

Three things:

If you are afraid of approaching women, ask them for directions or the time everyday. Then, once you are comfortable approaching them you can tell them you find them attractive. Once you are comfortable with that, you can then ask them on a date/phone Number. Baby steps. Focus on building the habit of talking to people in general.
With Daygame you need to be careful about approaching girls who might be underage. Usually after I approach them and compliment them I ask directly how old they are. If they are less than 18 years, just say that she is too young and then leave.
Frame and confidence is more important than wearing shorts and a shirt. Sure, you would probably be more sucessfull if you dressed well. But, don't use it as an excuse not to approach. Rejection is always better than regret!

Don't worry about how you're dressed, just make sure you are relaxed. If you want to talk to somebody, have a reason behind it. The "ask for the time" thing may have worked 20 years ago when not everyone had an iphone. You ask someone for the time now, they give it to you, then you either walk away or stand there thinking of things to say and obviously look like you want something else. Women know when you're using chit chat to get something you don't have the balls to be up front about.

All game is about momentum and attitude. Having a good attitude is a must, but momentum makes it easier. Talk to people. Talk to friends. Engage with people, don't get caught in your head or worried about what friends will think because that will just prevent you from doing it. Always engage in person, use social media as last resort.
