if you enjoy the subject i’d go for it.

being accepted to the 5th placed university is probably a bigger deal than you think at the moment, and you should be very proud of yourself. if the statistic you’ve read is correct then the reality is probably more nuanced than it seems, since computer science is not an easy subject and i can’t imagine the degree not being valued.

take it from someone that has recently graduated: there are A LOT of people at good universities doing bullshit courses, they do exist. i know a shit ton of people at russell group universities that are being robbed blind. personally i don’t think computer scientists are part of that category.

The main thing to keep in mind is that you want to be the top candidate by the time you graduate. think about it this way: there must be ATLEAST an 80% employment rate for your degree, aim to not just be one of the top 80%, but the 1% and you will have no problem.

that being said, i know little to nothing about computer science so you probably should speak to someone from your school. a year isn’t a crazy long time but you’ll have to find something to do, some work experience might help you in the long run. good luck bro.
