Had a bit of an epiphany tonight, realized the main difficulty I have in nearly all aspects of my life is a seeming inability to see the bigger picture.

As vague and cliche as it sounds I realize being an extremely detail oriented person, I don't see things as a whole but rather a collection of individual pieces. For instance, in the past with women I realize I've unconciously viewed their behaviors as somehow independent of other behavior, which caused things like still thinking of a woman as a special unicorn even though she cheated several times and obviously wasn't LTR material. Or if I'm drawing something I'll focus on making all the details perfect and not realize things are out of proportion and the image doesn't look right. On the job I do great work but focus too much on doing things perfect which causes me to waste time and not notice the things that I should be focusing on.

I overanalyze everything by each detail but in doing so miss the actual thing I'm analyzing; and/or how it all fits together. Being hyper detail oriented has some great benefits but huge downsides as well. It just sorta clicked just how much it has an impact on every part of my life.

Does anyone have trouble with this and what are some tips to overcome it.
