I tried to not make this too long but I needed to get some shit off my chest so you fully know my dilemma. (TLDR at Bottom)
I'm a 23 yr old African American guy who found The Red Pill reddit about a month ago. Ever since I've started going to the gym, eating a bit better, revamping my wardrobe, and reading more. I've gotten through most of the sidebar and have read the Rational Male, Models, and Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence people so far. It wasn't hard believing the god awful RP truths about being a man in relation to females and life in general because looking back on some personal observations and a lot of past failures/successes I've had with women it all just made sense. I'm not in any denial phase and my anger phase is more so based around mild shock with a little sadness. Honestly just relieved there are finally some answers as to why things have always seemed confusing and shitty. I'm just trying to internalize it all, which of course is the hardest part.
I was raised by a single mother with no real father figures or males in my life. It came as a surprise when I read that this was a common thing among AFC/BB guys. I never got into sports or extracurricular activities (besides drawing for my highschool's journal) which relates to never getting praised, never getting accomplishments and being starved for validation, never gaining essential male confidence, and struggling with self esteem issues since youth leading to shyness and introversion. Socially I wasn't an autist or completely hopeless. I have a good sense of humor which helped me play class clown sometimes to get some social cred, had some good friends, and even had a couple girlfriends. Classic funny, sometimes charming "Nice guy" who is decent at building rapport with girls but can't give tingles in most cases due to being indirect. Low confident drive to fit in. Really fear of being labled a skinny, quiet, nerd pushed me to be social. It helped a bit that I'm not bad looking either. Thankfully when I joined the military after high school it gave me independence, my first job (money), gave me the opportunity for my first drink and first bar/club outting, and a bit of confidence (but not enough to erase 19+ years of being a quiet bitch. In fact I almost became beta bucks for the GF I had during senior year. smh). Juuuust enough to get by. It helped me grow and I'm thankful for it.
Overall everything comes back to validation. I feel like I've been seeking validation all my life and the Red Pill had opened my eyes to it. Currently I'm doing great in life. I moved away from my dead end hometown and I'm enrolled in my dream college which is putting me toward my career goal plus i have my own apartment, decent car, and I have a healthy bank account that most people around my age hope to have in their 30s. Problem is I've been in a long dry spell and deep down I'm still the unconfident, confused beta. I can't get the ball rolling socially. I met a cool guy from classes who's introduced me to his circle. We all drank, hung out, and hell we even went to Disney World in Florida spring break. Pathetic thing is him and his circle are my only options. Whenever he's unavailable I don't go out. It's lame. I decided to go out solo to a comic con last weekend (because I felt solo at a bar/club would've been a bit much for a first time solo) and it was great and I even met a guy who seemed similar to me, got his contact but didn't lead anywhere. I'm a bit scarce on guy friends but I'm still trying in that department. I've never had that problem before really. But girls... that feels like an empty shit show right now.
I ended up catching oneitis for a chick I asked out after walking her home and building rapport and yada yada... who I then discovered had a boyfriend and I STILL TRIED BEING FRIENDS because "she's cool and I can have a female friend I'm attracted to (lies)." When I asked her out there was no rejection, just her being taken, so meanwhile my beta hamster is going "OH SHIT BRUH SHE MIGHT STILL LIKE YOU WHO KNOWS?! SHE DIDN'T SAY NO RIGHT?" As if occasional touching, talking, and eye contact meant anything. just endless rapport building with no real attraction. So I end up texting and entertaining this girl for a couple months like a beta orbiter trying to FIND if there's any attraction because deep down I wanted the romantic approval of her regardless. Now she's broken up with her boyfriend and my hamster is telling me to try to see if I can get her now which is RIDICULOUS because she most likely doesn't actually give af about me other than as a the classic hilarious, sweet buddy beta who gives her entertainment attention. There is no attraction because otherwise I'd have her. Girls don't give af about beta orbiters. At best she's putting me in a "break in case of emergency" until chad shows up. Straight up asked me if I would be in town till later this Summer cause she can't go to dinner or hang out cause she's busy with class, a new job, and she just broke up with her BF so she hasn't had a breather and blah blah. But since this girl was cute and gave me attention, I was so starved for validation that I kept texting her. After searching the meaning of my problem I discovered the definition of oneitis and I tried to stop contacting her and build abundance elsewhere to get over her. online dating (which is hard for 80% of guys and even more so for black guys) which led to nowhere. I got a couple numbers from a cold approach and a female classmate which respectively went nowhere due to a lack of real reciprocation from her (and probably game knowledge after getting the number from me) and a couple needy fuck ups on my part. Scarcity mentality is a bitch because I still find myself drifting back to orbiter chick when I'm in my weak ass feelings. I'm actually surrounded by 7s, 8s, and 9s in my college but constantly feel the dreading weight of my own internal struggle with validation and confidence. I'm aware of the problem but It's becoming difficult to fix. Abundance comes from having more than one but I can't get to one much less move past one. This pathetic feeling is what snapped me out of it and slowly directed me to the red pill through articles and youtube searches. Reading up on game and strategy. I feel so empty without a friend circle or female attention, its driving me crazy and I KNOW this mindset isn't helping. I SHOULD be fine being alone and just working on myself but... I'm not.
But despite all this I try to "Focus on my goal" currently in a half hearted monk mode but I'm going crazy barely having friends and no female attention. gym, class, audio books, clothes etc.... Trying to see if I have time outside of school to invest in a hobby in hopes of gaining a new skill and meeting new people. Trying not to stare at my phone waiting for so and so to text back or pathetically hoping this ONE dude I know gets free this weekend to hit up a bar. Trying not to pay attention to how I look on social media. Trying not to (and failing every other week or so) to hit up my oneitis leading to some dumb "empty entertainment" text convo. Trying not to feel like I have no chance with females due to race or "not being good enough cause I'm not ripped/mentally ready/learned enough game yet". Trying to make more male friends despite the fact that most guys I've met in school are introverted dudes who wouldn't be caught dead in a bar. Trying to get rid of this sad little beta mentality. Stepping forward and trying little by little hoping to improve internally and externally... Its like I'm walking blind folded across a bridge hoping life will EVENTUALLY meet me on the other side. I can't give up on myself because I see no other choice but to rise up above it. I've looked up some info on Stoicism and it clicked because it reminded me of the "embrace the suck" mentality from being in the military. Embracing shitty times and not letting anything get to you. The ultimate tool for limiting validation seeking and finding comfort in yourself helping deal with and tackle life with vigor and a calmness. Confidence... building frame from the ground up, game, etc. How do I reach this point and break this weak mentality/situation I'm in? How did you do it? How can I improve at meditating despite having ADD? Videos, articles, books... I'm open for all comments and suggestions. The sidebar is great but I feel like I'm not getting what I'm looking for in how to apply it to this aspect. and Yes I'm well aware of how weak, cringey, and long this whole rant sounds but that should at least tell you I'm trying to get this shit out of me and improve.
TLDR: How do you get over validation, gain self worth, and practice Stoicism when starting from what feels like nothing? Change your mental state and master your outlook?
