Also:

Try to avoid go to strange places, places with no people, and etc;
know that you'll pay at least twice the price for everything, even taxi;
If you accidentally enter in a favela, ask a boy (yes, boys, they're the sentinels) where you can buy some coke (it happened to me, I'm from São Paulo). If you enter there or try to leave without saying nothing they'll shoot you down with assault rifles;
If someone try to rob you, don't act like a hero, if you do they'll stab you;
If you're going out at night and you're with a car, when you see a red light, never stops in the end of the road to wait for green, you go slowing down, from the beginning of the road, to the end, so your car will never completely stops;
Don't trust the police;
Use a fucking repellent, you don't want to get Zika, do you?

Rio is a beautiful place, but thanks god I don't live there.

Is day game easy there for a foreign with a good level of Portuguese? I would hit beach/shopping mall etc.

Don't go. Too much crime and disease. There are better places to visit
