I have a shit ton of anxiety opening, but when the environment allows it and I can break through it once, I'm good to go. I suppose it is just a matter of desensitizing yourself.

Well, liquid courage is nothing to joke about. It definitely works. Also, if you decide to do something, just do it before your brain starts overthinking. It's more genuine that way. A guy, not hot, but not ugly, with good hygiene once approached me at the bar. He came over and basically started babbling, "Hi. Um, okay, sorry. I wanted to have something clever to say, but I am horrifically drawing a blank, and I really want to crawl under those bar stools and die right now. I don't even think I remember my name--Tom. My name is Tom. Hi, my name is Tom, what's yours?" We had a good laugh and I did go on a few dates with him.

An easy way to initiate too is to ask them to take a picture of you and your friends. This way you get their attention, AND you get a good look at them if you were unsure how they looked from the side or behind.

If you approach a girl, approach her from the side. Approaching from behind will startle them. Approaching from the front will put their creep shields up. Approaching from the side is less threatening.

Also, I agree with /r/All_Ads_Deceive about closing. Closing is the most important thing, but that probably won't happen till you start feeling more comfortable with approaching to begin with. I'm not saying that it'll get easier, but you'll get more used to that nervous feeling and remember that it won't kill you. Once you're more comfortable, you'll be able to show your true self better and see if it's compatible with the other person and more importantly, if that person is compatible with YOU. Too often, people focus on their "flaws" rather than if the other person deserves them to begin with.

Honestly, it should be less about approaching women than about just having a conversation in general with anyone.

Knowing how to close it all that matters. Cold approaching strangers is for phaggots who don't get laid. Don't waste your time having stupid pick up convos, collecting numbers, setting up dates and getting flaked on.

If you can't walk into a bar/club and leave with an HB8+ within 20 minutes then you should go monk mode
