One time I brought what I thought was a 24K gold bar into a halfway house for ex-convicts. I needed to piss so I just left it on the kitchen counter. For what it's worth, most people here agree that gold bars don't have the capacity to think for themselves.

When I came back, a convict was touching my gold bar. I told him it's mine but he mocked me so I beat him up, even though I brought my gold bar into a halfway house with ex-convicts present and left it by itself.

I discovered later that it was actually a rancid chocolate bar wrapped in foil.

In the future, I will likely find myself attracted to other rancid chocolate bars wrapped in gold foil and will probably bring them to halfway houses with a lot of ex-convicts. How do I prevent them from trying to steal my rancid chocolate bar wrapped in gold foil?

it's really difficult, depends on the situation and as detailed as you can tell your story, no one can really say.

However my recommendation is to go with the following frame:

"I can definitely beat the shit out of this guy whenever I feel like, but he's not a threat, no one is a threat to me or those around me"

Until he goes aggressive, physically, then you make him bite the curb. But until that you should be chill, funny and AMOG the shit out of him (light physical touch, smile, say things like "Wow are you hitting on my girlfriend? That's awesome, what are your pick up lines like? Show me!").

The problem wasn't him, it was your girl. Once you arrived she should have directed all her attention on you. Your description indicates that she still gave him enough signals to continue his efforts. That means she's not convinced you're her alpha.

The only way you win is when your girl picks you. The only way that happens is when you force the decision. By getting into the guy's face you reduced your value to her. Right now, the guy you choked out sits higher in her mind than you.

Your frame is shit and everyone that night knew it. You lack the confidence to walk out of a bar knowing that your girl will follow right behind without you having to say anything.

No, no, no. He out-alpha-ed you, because he ignored you and kept doing what he was doing without worrying about it. Resorting to physical violence shows that you had no other way to put him in his place. Nobody is going to respect you doing that in a bar, no one. Mate guarding is a sign of insecurity - if she wants to go with him there is almost nothing you can do to stop her.

You're lucky you didn't get the shit kicked out of you by bouncers, or worse have legal action taken against you. If he takes the first swing then by all means beat the shit out of the guy, you have no other choice but to defend yourself. That said, it should never get to that point.
