At bars, my best openers are observations (e.g., you look lonely, where are your friends? Or are you German? (Speak something in German) or even (you looked overwhelmed, is everything okay?)

Those openers work, but I struggle finding topics to talk about. I throw a few double entrees and they usually go well, but then I run out of material and am forced to have a boring “where are you from conversation?” Its fizzles down a bit after that.
