What should you do when somone challenges your status?

It sounds like you're just learning about group dynamics. Don't be offended, learn from it. Sometimes it's better to let someone else take the alpha group role and you just wait till they fuck it up and then take it back. Male friendship group status is based on merit. You say someone 'challenged' your dominance? Did you earn it? Do you provide the most utility, leadership, skills, humor, etc. to your group? If you don't and you challenge everyone around you your just going to come off like a giant dick and get ostracized. Just befriend the temporary alpha and wait for him to hang himself with his own rope.
