I was doing work in a coffee shop and there was a cute girl sitting in front of me. She turned around and smiled a few times, so when I was on my way out I stopped at her table, sat down, asked her her name, told her mine, said nice to meet you, and then asked if she wanted to get lunch sometime and she rejected me. I was really take aback by it because my SMV was probably a little higher than hers. She honestly seemed a little shy so I was surprised she had the balls to say no instead of making up a lie or getting my number but never texting me. I just smiled, said “no that’s ok, have a good day,” and left.

This was my first cold approach in a while so I’m still glad I did it even though she said no, but I wanted to get the most out of it and I figured I’d ask what you guys thought. Should I have done a little more small talk before I asked her out?What’s the success rate for cold approaches if you are higher SMV then she is? Any other advice?
