So I've been forcing myself to go out quite a lot recently which is nice since I haven't really done that in the past. Today my friend and I were approached by two older girls (we're about 21 and they were around 26). In the beginning they were (clearly) interested in both of us, however, later on they were much more interested in my friend. I'm about 95% sure that the reason is that he is much better at talking than me (literally just at having a conversation).

I may be starting to look like a man thanks to the gym and my choice of clothing but I still talk and seem like a 'boy'. I was talking to one of the girls but in the moment all I could think of to talk about were topics related to her major which is a really, really dull topic imo, especially if one has any plans about doing anything besides talking.

If a conversation takes an interesting turn I have no problem going with the flow and talking about whatever the topic is but my problem is the process of navigating the conversation in said direction.

Any go-to (interesting, non-major related) topics you can recommend?
