What's the difference between being a nice guy and Machiavellian ?

A Nice Guy pleases people because he thinks that if he does that, he will achieve something, get something in return. For example, the Nice Guy takes care of all the chores in the house and expects to get sex because of it. That's sadly not how things work.

A Machiavelian actually achieves things from using his niceness.

The whole "nice guy" thing has been twisted by women to suit their purposes.

They used to say "I want a nice guy" which meant "marriage material".

As marriage went out the window, women shifted their focus to hot guys, while pretending not to. (In order to maintain orbiters and later marriage options).

Now she needs a reason not to date good, decent, nice guys.

She articles popped up that labelled these good/decent/nice guys as "nice guys" and defined them as manipulative. Pretending to be nice by offering her dates when really all they want is SEX.

Now that she's labelled "nice guys" as manipulative, she can date bad boys and blame the good guys for it. It's not her fault that she's dating a drug dealer, it's because that nice safe doctor is a manipulative abusive asshole!

OP - if you're genuinely nice and good (even when you don't have to be), you're a good guy.

If you're pretending to be nice, pretending to be good, but really you have an ulterior motive, you're somewhat Machiavellian.

But it's hard to know because everyone games the system a bit. Everyone is nice when it suits them.

They aren't opposites, and they aren't the same. It's apples and oranges.
