So I was born with a relatively mild version of a deformity called retrognathia, which means that my lower jaw didn't grow to an adult size.

I am a rare case in that my teeth grew in properly and my upper jaw is normal which means that it couldn't be solved by braces.

Neither of my parents have this deformity. There is a plastic surgery to make my jaw proportionate and adult sized though, but it's solely aesthetic. This is what it looks like:

Do you think I'm being vain? Would you look down upon someone for doing this? Should I be open about it, is it anybody else's business except mine?

People get procedures for aesthetic reasons all the time, and half of those aren't even to correct a deformity. Sometimes they are, like people who are born without ears pinned back naturally, but often people will get braces for purely aesthetic reasons or women will get breast implants etc. I don't see why I should be viewed as vain / weird for wanting to pretend like I wasn't born with this deformity, right?

And chances are if I were to have children (but I won't) then they wouldn't have it anyways. My parents were both born with beautifully formed, proportionate jaws. Just not me. Nobody else in my family has it, actually.
