Hello /r/seduction. I haven't posted here before and stumbled upon by curiosity. I see that you friends are users of the "alpha" and "beta" labels. Well, so do I and I want to share a little story with you.
Highschool, this year. Bit of background info, I'm 18, male and popular. Not the highschool movie kind of popular, I try and show respect to those around me and am helpful, when I can.
This year in September, a new lad moved to our class. I'll call him... Johnny (obvs. not his real name). Johnny was tall, but fat. His hair was a complete mess and it was obvious he didn't quite wash it. Wore the same shirt for days on end and although he was intelligent, he wasn't that good at talking to others. Needless to say, he was being made fun of within one week of moving here. I would stand up for him from time to time, but I had my own worries, after all.
Fast forward one month later, I go to take a piss and I find Johnny teared up in the bathroom. Ask him what's wrong, get a quick "nothing" and he leaves quickly. That same day I find out that my classmates have been calling him a "slave" and sending him to the shop and back, on threat of violence, of course. Fuck that shit.
I am bent on helping him, stick around the class and stand up for him. Lad is still sad. Maybe he's not made fun of that intensely, but he's still friendless.
Another week passes, I see he walks in with a diablo shirt. I go and talk to him "nice shirt" etc. We start talking about video games and see that he's actually a cool guy, only shy as fuck and without the bone to stand up for himself. We exchange contacts and play a couple of online games. Fast forward a week, we start to hang out at school as well, taking him when I go away from the class (he'd only stay inside during breaks). My other friends at school aren't as ignorant as my classmates and couldn't give a shit that he smelled bad sometimes. Johnny actually looked happy, the little fucker :D
Fast forward another two weeks, we go out for a beer after school and the discussion gets more private. I ask him why doesn't he stand up for himself, he just shrugs. Then he tells me that weight is a real problem for him and he's always been made fun of because of that. "Come to the gym with me bro!". Johnny smiled and didn't look convinced at all, but he did come to the gym with me. Every day that I'd go and work 2x as hard as me, although I've been going there for about a year.
Two weeks later, we change in the locker room after a gym session. Johhny jokes "gah, I stink". I know I've been insensible, but it needed to be said: "Mate, sometimes you smell a bit even if you don't do any sports. Shower in the mornings, people don't like that." Had to be said and there's no nice way to do it. He got the message and didn't show up smelling at school again.
Fast forward two months this time. He lost ~38 lb (17 kg) in this time. Gym, combined with the fact that he has friends who don't make fun of him) has given him a tad bit of confidence.
And here comes the best part: We're hanging out in the school yard, by a tree, me and two other friends. Johnny and another lad are coming from the school shop, towards us. They're almost near us when two of my class mates that made fun of him joke "Wow Johnny lost some weight there. What, now you can't afford food as well as clothes?" I boil and stand up, heading for the group. Before I take my second step, I see Johnny, Johnny whom I've never seen stand up for himself, Johnny who has been working out like an animal for the past two months, pace towards my classmate, stare him down and ask calmly "What the fuck is your problem?". Classmate freezes for a moment, remember, Johnny is pretty tall. He then smiles, laughs nervously and the two idiots fuck off.
I don't think I've ever felt so proud of an accomplishment in my whole life. I've turned this lad with no friends or backbone into someone capable of standing ground against two others by himself. And I've done nothing more than show a bit of kindness and consideration. You should try it, you'll see how good it feels.
Tl;dr I've tried to change someone from beta to alpha and can say I succeeded and it's an awesome feeling.
Challange: If you know someone who is shy, someone who makes you feel pity even in the slightest bit, go ahead and show some kindness and consideration, it can't do any bad.
suggestion: Don't make it obvious that you want to bring change in someone's life, they may feel patronized or insulted. If you do it, do it with kindness, not superiority.
