So even as I type this, I sound a little arrogant, but I need to give a little background to my inner crises. I would probably be the closest thing to a natural. I have a good inner and outer game, I have hobbies that take up my time and interest, a decent job for someone still in university and I'm reasonably intelligent and fit. I don't find it hard to approach and talk to anyone, be it women or men, and a lot of people report me as a funny, caring, interesting and weird kind of guy that can make them feel comfortable quite easily.
I found this subreddit and I've browsed it to get motivated to meet more people when I found myself in a state of despondency at the lack of new friends in my life. Since then, I've expanded my circle, and even though I'm still single, I'm not without a sex life, even though the pussy can be far and in between. I've found techniques that have helped me make friends faster and improve my confidence which, even though I have plenty of it, can still fail me at critical moments.
My problem is not being the weird, funny guy that people like as a friend, but it stems from who I am as a person, a side of me which I have to initially suppress in myself when first meeting people. I am not a normal person.
I have an almost endless supply of energy and very little people who can match what I put out. I'm almost child-like in that I get easily excited, am happy almost constantly (I see no reason to be sad) and I have a level of empathy that makes me a pretty good actor. It's like the level of intensity in which I live my life is scary and kind of intimidating to some, annoying to others and a fucking magnet to maybe one in a million. Thus lies my dilemma. My brain operates at a speed unfathomable to many but me, and even I get lost in my train of thought sometimes. It's an active exercise that I have to take to slow my brain down to a level that means I retain an energy level that's attractive, not explosive, whilst maintaining confidence, even though I'm suppressing the very core of myself.
I'm fucking sick of it. I hate having to feel like the very part of me that makes me unique, interesting and ME have to be buried under a facade of calm collection. I suppose it comes across as quiet confidence, but inside I'm a boiling cauldron of retained fucktard-ery.
On the upside, this demeanour usually helps me filter out the people who I don't want to interact with. I can ask questions, read their responses and decide if this is the kind of person I can slowly introduce my true self to, and if they're worth getting to know. This subreddit really showed me the value of good company, and I treasure it.
The downside is that I don't meet the people I want to DATE with this attitude. It has served me really well when it comes to getting laid, to entertain friends of friends and I can flirt very naturally in this role. But this doesn't attract people of substance, people that I truly want to know, because they're only seeing the side of me that I know THEY will like.
I suppose what I really need help with is not with meeting people in general, but meeting the right people. By using this calm exterior where I attempt (I don't always succeed) to control my thoughts into a more normal and less threatening pattern, I don't attract the kind of people I feel that I can have a friendship/relationship with.
I want to let go, release these inhibitions into the wind and take on a devil-may-care attitude, but I'm worried I won't be able to meet anyone consequently because I'll simply too much to handle and thus not worth interacting with.
So my question, guys, is do I continue using my relaxed act which gets me laid, or do I show my true self and maybe meet someone I can truly relate to?
TL;DR: I'm too energetic and weird, this scares people off with it's intensity, but the calm me doesn't attract the people I want to attract. Whut doo?
EDIT: Grammar.
