Don't laugh too much whilst you are storytelling - I have a friend who very often when telling stories does a "mini-laugh" every 5-6 words and ends up making people feel awkward. It's especially awkward when the story is neither particularly interesting or funny at the end - often he will laugh several times before he has even told the funny part leaving me thinking "wtf, if I don't laugh then he'll feel awkward but if I fake smiling when it's not even funny I won't have anything to say". Note : A chuckle or pause to laugh before you tell the funny part is fine and builds suspense to hear the joke if done well.

I'm not sure if I got my point across particularly well, as you probably don't have a friend like this, but yeah!
