Men were taught not to cling to rejections as failures, but to move on to the wealth of other options that lay ahead of them. These views were in the service of building the confidence of these men, of ensuring they didn’t cling to negative outcomes. But what they gained in confidence they often lost in humanity.

I'd disagree with this interpretation. There is an important reason why men shouldn't treat rejections as failures: avoiding rejection leads to dishonesty. If you are honest and open, or "confident" if you'd prefer, you are going to be much more attractive to women who are compatible with you and much less attractive to women who aren't.

The alternative is a man who's first priority is to avoid rejection- a guy who will pretend to be someone he isn't in order to impress a girl. This leads to a lack of intimacy and shitty relationships.

Is The Game supposed to be used as a how-to manual? If I remember correctly, at the end of the book everyone was unhappy and the main character almost blew it with the girl he wanted most with his shitty pick-up methods before coming to his senses.

‘Neg’ was a back-handed compliment used to show active disinterest in the girl being targeted.

This is a really skewed way of looking at it.

People should be viewed as equals. If you are doing everything you can to flatter a girl and make her like you, is this an equal relationship? No. If you respect someone, you will say what you want to without such an end-goal. Good friends tease each other all the time. You can fake this with intentional 'negs' but with some confidence it should come naturally.

The community here is different today than what you described, I think. Models: Attract Women Through Honesty by Mark Manson is more recent and much better than The Game. The seduction community in 2008 had some general ideas about what works with women but no understanding of why these things work.

The main flaw in your reasoning is there isn't one "seduction community".

Making statements about the community is like making statements about women, or people of color. It's overgeneralizing. It's like saying reddit is one community, so /r/twoxchromosomes is just like /r/the_donald

Just go read /r/theredpill, /r/incel, /r/rsd and this forum. You'll get completely different advice from the four of them.

It has been nine years since I made my thesis documentary and I do wonder what happened to the guys who I met along the way.

Now, that would be really interesting!! It would be fascinating to see how the different approaches play out over time. (Look at Neil Strauss, and how his life changed)

Also, I couldn't find a link to the documentary, or to your thesis. Either would be interesting.
