If anything, wait till you're 18 to do something. He shouldn't be feel the temptation to do anything with you while you're underage, but I wouldn't suggest going out of your way to get him to like you romantically/sexually until you're 18 or close to it.

I’ve never understood this obsession with people being a day older when most civilized countries have ages of consent below 18.
If you follow the half your age plus 7 rule he shouldn’t see anyone below 20 though.
Back to OPs point being a high schooler interested in some 26 isn’t likely to workout unless you are just looking for sex. There is just such a huge difference in where you are in life. It certainly depends on the person and there circumstances but people long term tend to work out with people in similar life places in my experience.
