You waited too long to ask for her number. It helps if you have a clever way of asking for her number that will make her laugh. But if you can't think of something clever, say something like "You are beautiful, damn. I would love to have your number." That line has worked for me plenty of times.

I was at Starbucks about a month ago. Barista was very cute. I order a small hot chocolate (coffee tastes gross, sue me).

Barista: Okay, that will be $3.50.

Me: Holy shit! For a small hot chocolate?! That's expensive! Do you come with it?

Barista: giggles Unfortunately.. No.

Me: Well, does your number?

Barista: Well, I'm not really supposed to give out my number at work. But I won't tell if you don't.

Pretty clever way of asking for a number, and I got it within the 2-3 minute span of ordering. You gotta move quick, OP.

20 minutes seems like a long time before asking for her number..? Have you tried asking her if she wants to get a drink some time? That's a simple yes/no kinda thing. If she's game, THEN you get her number to sort out details. It seems like more of a natural progression.

I'd also cut the conversations to 5 or so minutes. Ask for compliance (date/number) on a high before the excitement fizzles out.

You have a healthy attitude man. You're moving in the right direction :)

These things happen frequently. She either enjoys the attention or your company, but ultimately is not interested. Either way I always blame myself if I find the time spent talking to her to be wasted, as I in those cases could have made a move earlier in the interaction. It even happened yesterday! But the time wasted perspective is cynical and kind of unhealthy (unless if she actually is a trickster).
