You have to be more friendly, ask things about the person. Just become friends, then when you gain a little more confidence ask her out to a movie or some other activity you both enjoy. I have a few female friends that are only online friends, but i got to date one for like 2 weeks IRL.

I never tried OkCupid, but the advantage of online dating is that you can approach very much girls in a short amount of time. I always use the same "opener". Try something like saying "Hey, you're picture looks very gorgeous/attractive/hot/sexy. How are you doing?" or god knows what. Not every female will answer you but who gives a fuck. Quantity is a big matter of online dating, so just keep trying.

I'm assuming that youre sending out messages:

Read her profile, then write an opinion or a one liner or whatever referencing something from it. Thats it. Just read it in what you imagine her voice to be then imagine what you would say next if it was an irl conversation.

Dont write too much. 1 to 2 paragraphs.

Cut out any fluff like: "I just ran across your profile and..." or "...hope to hear back from you" or "care to chat?" or whatever, just get to the point.

Dont write generic messages. "hi" "how are you?" ect. Women get about 100 cut and paste jobs exactly like this from guys who haven't read their profile every day. They know.

Similarly don't comment on her appearance or tell her shes hot. Yet. If you get a positive response initially then its OK.

Addendum, If you get a positive response but she later flakes, don't be afraid to send another message later. But make it a TOTALLY NEW TOPIC, do not reference the fact that she failed to respond at all. She got busy; whatever, it doesn't matter.

Assuming you are male:

You are a lawyer, unless your job is actually interesting just say you're a lawyer. She doesn't actually look like her profile picture, so there's no reason for you to be totally honest. No one else is, and you're putting yourself at a disadvantage.
You make over $100,000 a year. Always.
You are over 6 feet tall. Always.
Make your profile picture something you do that is different, don't face the camera and don't smile.

"Hi, you should go out with me :)"

Questions for a first date Also, read every single blog post these guys have written, they know what the fuck they're talking about.
