People always say you must speak in-person with someone while dating.
a) Phones are inconvenient
b) She's more likely to call back

I'd like to try and debunk this claim using pizza as an analogy. When people aren't successful using technology, I think it's natural to think that the technology is busted. Companies have been delivering pizza as soon as the 1960s. So you could call in and get it delivered for quite awhile. It was convenient and easier, just cost a little extra. Now with apps you order pizza over your phone in minutes after you save your payment method. The whole process is pretty much the same as ordering pizza except you don't have to drive over there for carry-out, wait 15 minutes, and many times you can use coupons online.
If apps can make ordering a pizza easier, then why not dating? Nearly everyone either has an app or, profile on a dating website, who is single.
They don't show you the pizza before you arrive. You aren't worried the pizza won't look like pizza. You trust that it will look sort-of like pizza. Same with online dating.
