The main change you need to do is pick the place and time instead of asking her. I understand that you want to make sure she'll be available, while also picking out a place she'll like.

The thing is, you don't have to sacrifice these things by picking the place and time. Let me explain...

First: You'll want to pick a place that you've been to before and you know is good. You've had a good experience at that place and you'd like to share it with your date. While it is fun to experiment and try a place that neither of you have been before, for a first date I would recommend going to a place where you know you'll have a good time, or food will be good, etc.

Second: If you set the time and she won't be available, all will not be lost because if she is interested she can simply say "7:00 isn't good for me, how about 8:00?" or "I have plans Friday night, how about Saturday?" Keeping this in mind, you will not seem indecisive and you will also seem flexible to adjust to her schedule.

Lastly: Most women look for a man to be the man. They want someone to step up and take charge of the situation. When a lady is taken out, they want to be taken out. Stepping up and choosing the place and time will always leave a strong impression. When you go out on a date, you want to spend time getting to know each other, not figuring out what to do. For me, picking the place and time have always led to a good time and mostly, a second date.

Find out where she's coming from/living, and then find a place to meet in-between.

You're accommodating, and still in control when you pick the venue and time.
