If you want to form a relationship with a woman, she’s going to want to learn about you.
While that may seem obvious when reading it here, it may not seem natural when you’re in the middle of a conversation with a woman. Particularly if you’re not used to socializing or revealing personal information about yourself to a woman in dating situation.
Also, if someone were to ask you the question: “tell me about yourself,” you’re go-to topic may well be Asperger’s.
This could be particularly true if you were diagnosed as a child - and thus Asperger’s has been an overarching theme in your life for a long time.
However this could also be true if you’ve received a recent diagnosis, and suddenly the topic is dominating everything about “you” in recent times.
Either way, if you hear the question “tell me about yourself” and your knee-jerk reaction is: Asperger’s, then we need to find a solution.
Because there’s a lot more to you than just Asperger’s. And that’s the stuff she needs to learn about.
So you have to be prepared to talk about these things. And for some of you, the best thing to do is to prepare in advance.
Let’s break these “personal” things down into two groups.
The first group will be: interests, hopes, desires and dreams.
If I asked you right now to explain your biggest interests, hopes, desires and dreams, what would you do? Well (even like many neurotypicals), you might fumble around with your thoughts and words trying to figure out what to say.
Therefore, prepare in advance. Think about that question and write down 4 or 5 things. Put some thought into it. Have more than 1 sentence to explain any particular hope/desire etc.
By writing it down, it will help you solidify what you want to say. Then you’ll be prepared when the time comes.
(Make sure to have 4 or 5 things, even more is better, because you also want to avoid getting stuck on one topic for too long, so you need some options in order to change the subject).
The second group will be: something that makes you vulnerable.
In an effort to avoid talking about “being vulnerable” in the context of “feelings,” let’s just put it this way: What are 2 or 3 things about yourself that you never tell anyone else. Your secrets for you and you alone?
Whatever those are, you’ll probably have to reveal them to her eventually. Not on the first date. Perhaps not on the second or even third date. But eventually if you want to form a long-term intimate relationship.
BTW, revealing those things to her will make her start feeling an emotional connection to you (whether you realize it or not).
Whatever these little secrets are, you surely want to decide in advance what you’re going to reveal, and be prepared to talk about them with her.
