I believe this could apply for multiple circumstances but this instance applies to a birthday present.

This girl and I have a thing going on but we have resisted most sexual interactions as she has a new boyfriend (body language indications). (Note we have had a thing for each other but I keep leaving town and she gets a new boyfriend the day before I come back, been together for about a month) I asked about him and she said "I put too much hope into people" then we made out. He also seems pretty clingy.

It's her 21st birthday in a couple of days and I know this douche will probably just buy her a bottle of alcohol but since she is very artistic and doesn't usually like bought gifts I made her a mosaic.

If you think your present is better than her current boyfriends should you give this to her before or after his present? Which would create a higher value?
