Guys appreciate being forward and direct (or at least I do). Subtle hints are forcibly ignored lest we interpret things wrong and look like a creep. You can lead with asking about the class, ask if he's seeing anyone, and tell him you'd love to get some coffee and walk around campus in the very near future.

The forwardness isn’t particularly an issue, would you think some random girl asking you about the class mid semester as being an advance?
He’s usually late to class too, so it woild have to be after and he tends to zip out of there so would chasing him down be a little too much ?

I will totally. I’ll see him again Thursday before the break, so that’s my time to shine

I think you should try to speak to him first before straight up asking him out. Just sit next to him and try to make casual conversation for a couple days then ask for his social media

I'm horrible at hints. I either think it's a hint when it's not or it goes right over my head when it is. I'd enjoy something direct and I think most men are like that. "Hey my name is xxx I'm in whatever class with you. ____ class is no place to get to know someone, would you wanna grab coffee sometime?" Hope it works out for ya!
I will try this I think

Well, if you will aproach him with smile, friendly attitude and cute outfit, he will enjoy it for sure. You can be of course direct straightforward - "I would like to get to know you", but you can also have some generic but constructive conversation. If he is smart enough and he likes what he see, he should catch the vibe. Leave him some space to ask you out, or simply ask for school social life that he attends.

Show him this thread and ask him what his thoughts are.
