I also found focusing on self esteem may help with approach anxiety if I wanna come at it from another angle. It takes weeks to do though.

Try chatting with people you find interesting and ignore types you don't like, forcing yourself talking to someone of type you don't like is a bad idea because your body language will reveal you actually wouldn't like to talk with them and they will notice
