Hi, not experienced, but at least I'm a girl. "Why hit on a girl out of your league?" - she doesn't sound like a very successful person imho.... Actually if you hit on someone you think that is out of your league, is definitely sexy, for me. Risk takers are sexy, risk takers are those become successful. It shows confidence too. "What's your name" and "where are you from" are not pick up lines... they are normal socializing questions... how do you get to know a person or make a conversation otherwise? This is my opinion but: girls, your crush, your idols, etc. They are all human. Treat them like a normal human being... don't overthink it! BTW, I thought it was interesting, but my friend once said pick up lines never work. I think I can confirm, they are just funny.

Hi, thank you. That's really reassuring and I especially like this:
girls, your crush, your idols, etc. They are all human. Treat them like a normal human being... don't overthink it!
I have known this all my life and yet I somehow need to be reminded of it. Thanks, again.

I think the first quote is bullshit. I'll hit on whoever the hell I want because I'm a man and I don't care for statuses. If I find her attractive I will let her know and if she rejects me I don't care enough to regret it. In fact, I'm glad I still approached.
The second quote, those aren't pick up lines. They're methods of gathering info. If I'm on a date I will ask where shes from and I get her name from the initial approach. I wouldn't personally use "can I buy you a drink" because that's not my style and feels like an exchange of liquor for her time which I don't like. Instead say something like "Hey, you're cute, let's share a beer".
The thing about all these conflicting answers that you're finding online is that you'll never find a general rule for everything. Everyone with blogs and sites have contradicting approaches to women. You need to find what suits your style best and work on improving that. If you feel that "can I buy you a drink" works for you then I suppose that you should practice it and try to own it. Again, I personally don't like that approach, but you do you my man.
Edit: To add on to that. I wouldn't read off a womans blog. No offense to the lovely ladies, but women don't know exactly what they want. Shit, men don't know exactly what we want. There's a spectrum and there's too many different ways that things play out. You'll absolutely hook some girls with "can I buy you a drink" and they'll like it and others will hate it. Doesn't mean you shouldn't do it just because some of them will react badly from it.

That site you linked to is targeted at a specific culture and I would definitely not generalize her advice, they are not universal rules.
I recommend you not take any advice that isn't field tested. That's how this whole scene developed, some guys went out and tested what actually works, rather than asking women what works. Since many of our emotional reactions are subconscious, we have to use observation. We can deduce what the subconscious reasons are, but it really doesn't matter as long as it works in practice.
But there are some bits of her advice that do generally conform to accepted pickup practices. For example, not using boring pickup lines. Some guys around here believe that it doesn't really matter how you open (and that is true to some extent) but you have to open with something emotionally engaging. Approaching a woman with "Hi I'm TPUA, what's your name?" is a weak opening, she doesn't really care what your name is yet. Once you hook her, once you engage her emotions, then she wants to know your name and more about you.
In terms of conflicting advice in seddit, always go with the field tested advice. If someone is giving an opinion, it is almost certain to be wrong, because most of what we do runs counter to our instincts. We're all here because our instincts lead us to do exactly the wrong thing, so we fail with women. I never give advice unless I have personally tested it, or have heard reports of it being tested by authoritative sources within our community. But ultimately, the final authority is YOU. Even field tested advice has to be tested. Not everything works best for you. Try things and find out what works for you.

Seems like pretty bad advice to me. From a statistical standing, there is no such thing as zero percent chances of getting with a girl, regardless of how sexy she is. Its always a 50/50 chance and you'll never know where you stand unless you take a chance. And if you really think about it, if you never approach women who are "out of your league", then you will guaranteed have zero percent chance of getting with those women. Just remember, if your to afraid of failing too even try, your guaranteed to fail. Also I don't think its worth worrying about what you should and shouldn't say. It's overanalyzing small details of a much bigger picture.
