Quite the age gap... may be difficult to overcome mainly because you're young. Hell go for it, You miss any shot you don't take, but also keep your expectations low.

The low and slow approach would be best. What I've done with a gym crush is just walk up after you catch them noticing and be direct. Like hey, looks like we're both here at the same time a lot so I wanted to say hi. Smile, shake hands, introduce yourself and maybe some small talk before getting back to your workout. Now you can say hey whenever the mood strikes and see where it leads if anywhere. Before ending the convo with the woman I met, I said to let me know if she ever needed a spot or a high five. Most of the time now, we just high five and have a quick laugh about something weird that happened during the day. Very worst case scenario is increased social value.

What a about a woman that I have seen there much less often, I had a really good opportunity to talk to this other lady tonight but I didn't really know what to say because your previous suggestion wouldn't apply
