It takes time to get used to opening street style. You can do it just as smoothly as elsewhere but it's a bit of a mental struggle for everybody as far as I know.
I never met anybody who was instantly comfortable grom approach 1. Takes awhile.

True. I've never done one where I stopped the person on the street walking. I've done ones where they're not sitting but it was indoors. Street is the hardest one.

I guess this applies to any human interaction, common ground will always be an obvious advantage. As far as interactions with zero common interest it's a matter of getting used to it.
