__1: What do?__

Not to blame the ratio, but I felt like it was in general 70% dudes at the clubs and bars. In addition, the method I'm used to (dancing near a girl and eventually dancing with her) didn't really work.

I'm assuming, when you tried your old way, it led to other dudes swooping in all the time. The issue here could be considered one of two things:

You might need to approach in a less loose way in a place like that. Work to pre-qualify girls with eye contact "openers" first and start interacting with them before you're close to them. And so on. Exact details beyond this, I couldn't say because you said very little about what you actually did. Feed me more details about your approaches in one place versus the other, and I can go into more detail about recommendations.
You might need to find a place with better ratios. It sounds like you're hitting places with really poor ratios, and there are likely better ones. It also sometimes helps to arrive earlier, before the desperation and drunkenness levels get higher later on in the night.

However, I went out in south bay (San Jose, CA) area this weekend and felt like this place was way different.

Yes. Different places can be different. Different vibes, cultures, male/female ratios, etc.

And no, it's not "wussing out" to simply acknowledge that two situations are different.

For context, the whole Mystery Method, that you have probably heard of, was put together in the background of a culture (in Los Angeles) that is hyper-competitive, overly concerned with image and wealth, and overall full of lots of bullshit. So MM was developed to "fight" on their terms.

So you're getting into an interesting topic. Technically, "seduction" is based on basic principles that work anywhere. However, one may find that adjustments are necessary in different places. Hell, adjustments are required between different people, if we want to be picky. Which leads to the question, "What changes are you comfortable or willing to make, in order to get at girls?"

But really, the question becomes, are you able to have consideration for different cultures or situations, without having to compromise who you are? James Marshall covers this in an interesting way as he describes how he dealt with LA after being told "his game" wouldn't work there.
