Please forgive me, this is my first field report and I'm not too familiar with the vocabulary just yet. If you want any clarifications just ask and I'll go into more detail.

Went out tonight after watching several hours of the 21Convention (links below). Richard La Ruina has really mapped out the night-game in a way that is very simple to understand, and easy to execute (with just a little bit of practice).

I began the night talking to a few different sets. It was a nice club with a good range of HB[6]-[9]. I was out with my buddy, but we were split apart opening different sets most of the night. I spot a 3set with an HB[8] target in mind. I approached straight up on the corner of the bar and just asked them how they were doing and what they were up to. Super simple, had a big smile and let them know that I was having a great time (which I was!)

Here's where some technique came in. I've always had trouble with sets because I don't know how to treat the non-targets. I'll say to people who struggle with this, don't be wishy-washy. Pick one and go for her. She's the one you like. The other ones are cool and you'll want their approval so they'll leave their friend with you, but you have to project your interest accordingly. I was polite and friendly, but I did turn my body language towards the target, while trying to give the "I like your friend" looks towards the other two. I wanted them on my side for this one, if they join my team, and the target likes me, where's the problem?

There isn't one gentlemen.

We just barely get through the very basic, names / where are you from / what do you do questions. I'm doing a pretty good job answering with jokes and teases, but mostly I'm lame and answer her conversation with pretty small talk. We're given about that much time before her friends pull her away saying they really have to go to some other area of the bar. After I ask her if she's sure she actually has to leave, she neglectfully follows them off.

K. So. Opened a 3set, target was definitely interested, girlfriends pulled her away. I can accept that, I made great progress and felt suave as fuck. On to the next one.

2Set, HB[7] and her less attractive friend. It looks like they just got their drinks and are at a standing table. I approach with my glass raised and cheers them. I use the opener of "What are you girls doing out here tonight?" In a sorta "haven't seen you in forever" kind of way with some very light kino. I'm shooting for familiarity and comfort. I exchange names and then joke about how I'm so horrible with names that I'm going to ask them a few times at random points in the night. This is a great topic because it sets it up so you can always approach them later, and also everyone is bad at names. Something right off the bat you can laugh at how bad you are and/or tease them for not being good at it either. It makes the environment very friendly and natural. I'm having a great time.

When, what-ho? The HB[8] approaches me. Yup. Then, she uses an opener on me. Yup. A "oh hey funny to bump into you on this side of the bar, ;)" sort of opening. At this point I saw her two friends walking away as they seemingly walked her over to me, and then left. It's clear to me that I have increased my value just by being around the other girls. My hero-friend swoops in and introduces himself to the 2set that I had opened, so I don't feel bad for ignoring them, but my target can see that I clearly turned my back to them. To them, maybe I looked like I'm talking to a friend I already knew. To her, I turned my back to other girls to keep talking to her.

While talking to the HB[8] I'm trying to use Gambler's technique of escalation during conversation while we small talk. I start at light graze at the elbow when I go to talk to her, and try very hard not to break eye contact. This is more difficult when we're quite close and speaking into each other's ears. From the elbow I go to shoulder, from the shoulder I go to the back of the neck. I do this escalation every time I lean in to hear what she's saying, or to say something to her. When I go to talk in her ear, I lean as if I'm going to kiss her and then just smoothly pull off to the side and start talking into her ear about anything. You get to see how she reacts to you starting to kiss her, but you have the intent of just talking. If it's not a negative reaction, keep escalating. If it is a negative, then pace it out. Seriously, Richard "Gambler" La Ruina. Man's a genius.

After a bit of this we're running out of conversation. I tell her she's very pretty and when she flushes I ask her if she has a boyfriend. When she says no, I follow up with, "then come dance with me." and raise my hand for her to follow. NOW here's one risky move for me because I have not yet practiced escalation on the dance floor, and don't know how this is going to play out but hey, I figure this girl's into me, might as well go for the areas I'm least experienced in. Why?

So that we can learn gentlemen.

Here's where I crash. I'm not doing too bad with escalation. We're dancing quite close and it's getting very sexual. She's quite shy though and is laughing at how crazy everything is.

Me(very close, with eye contact): Is it too soon to kiss you? Her: No... but I still think that's a bad idea.

Now, I asked, is it too soon to kiss you, and I heard NO. The rest of the sentence didn't even mean a thing to me as I shortly after pulled her in for the k-close. Which she dodges. So I give her a kiss on the cheek. I say, "I guess it was too soon ;)" to and she follows with leaning in kissing me on the cheek. One more playful kiss on her cheek before I go to kiss her lips again. Again a denial!

Me: Hey, I like you.

Her: Sure, because I'm dancing with you.

[Here's somethings I could have said]

Me: Sure, I like dancing with you. Is that a bad thing?

[or]

Me: fuck yeah, I'm having a great time!

[What I tried to say]

Me: I want to dance with you instead of the others. [OR something along those lines damn it!]

[Here's what I said]

me: Fuck yeah! Is that a bad thing? I could dance with anyone here. [ughhh]

Her: I know.

30 seconds later.

Her: I think I better find my friends.

Now at the time, engines failed, crash-landing. Not sure what started the downfall, but you know what, and I'm going to roll with it. I say, "great, let's find them! I know what they look like!" take her hand and lead her around to find her friends.

Once found, I hang with her friends for a little bit being playful, playing that same name game I was using earlier, when I tell them that I'm off to find my friend and I'll see them later. I didn't know what to do. She rejected me, but there I was accepted in their circle. Confused, I eject.

Some time passed after talking it out with my homey during a smoke break. Going back inside I saw her again with a bit larger group. More guests of their birthday party I suppose. I waved her over, but she kinda shook her head. I held up one finger as if to say, one second, over there. She started to lean towards coming, but then shook her head no. Jeez, I don't know what this girl wants. Realizing that I'm lowering my value by sticking around, I shrug it off being chill and eject.

Fast forward to the end of the night and I'm heading outta there. When my wingman stays behind. I had a great time, I had great successes and awesome practice. I'm ultimately quite pleased with myself and giggle the whole way home at her saying "she knows" that I can dance with any girl that I wanted. I didn't know that... but she does... so I guess that's not too bad of validation. Feeling pretty suave, I know at this rate I'll be kicking serious ass very soon.

Wingman calls me later with a story about how he walked up to this smoking hot chick, told her that his friend left, but that before he did he really dug her, and asked for her number to give to him. Check my texts. Number right there. This guy is a god damn legend. He was kicking ass too the whole night, and he stopped kicking ass for a bit, to go over to my target which I'd lost complete control of, and finish that deal up and hand deliver it to me. This is how to be a wingman.

SO NOW, I have the number, I made a bunch of friends that night, and watched how a man can be a professional wingman. One of the best educations that I've gotten and it came with a number. And now... I have no idea what to do, but I imagine I'll learn a lot from it :).

TL;DR: opening 2 and 3sets solo, raising your value, steady escalation, and how to be an amazing wingman
