This is gonna be my first field report, I see it as a personal victory.
Drive up to a light. Chick is sitting there, about to light a cigarette up, hazards on, obviously look of distress. Roll down my window, yell "Hey." No response, yell a little louder. She looks ups, "You all right?" Words come gushing out. She looks happier.
Obvious (to me), her power steering is out. I suggest she drives forward, she's too scared, says Triple A is coming. Light turns green, calmly say, "Well don't panic, everything's gonna be alright. Good luck." Drive off. Realize I'm a moron, find parking. Run back to the light, she's still there. Visibly distressed again. Sees me, smiles.
Tell her I'll drive her car to a parking lot for her so she's not stuck in an intersection. She's hesitant, "Do my wheels work." I turn the wheel hard, "Yeah look, they still move." (I think I didn't pull this right, I was too DUH OF COURSE THEY WORK). She gets in the car, I start driving it. This is where I fail, but I'm glad I even got this experience.
In the car, I try to initiate conversation. I'm anxious, start blabbering about power steering and how my friends used to remove it from their cars. Still salvageable until... I park. We step out. I say "Are you going to be alright, want me to wait for you until Triple-A gets here?" As it leaves my mouth, I've realized I just pulled a Beta move. I should've said, "I'll wait with you until Triple-A gets here. So where were you going?"
My first belly flop, but at least I dove.
