After being a lurker here for a few months I finally decided to take the jump into actually approaching girls. It was a harrowing and enlightening experience in regards to my- far below optimum- communication skills, but in the end I am glad I did something about it
So jumping into the experience: there is a HB7/8 in one of my college classes that I had been interested for a few weeks and having not talked to her yet I decided to try my first cold approach. Now, first off, this took a lot of psyching myself on my part because I am someone that gets a lot of Approach Anxiety when approaching people I don't know, but through some helpful advice from a friend, a wing-girl of sorts, I got myself to do it.
I had planned to go up to her and say: "Hi, my name is ReardenX and for the past few weeks you have been really catching my eye." (Cheesy I know)
In the end, I ended up sounding really awkward because of my approach anxiety, but I tried not to worry about it. I was kind of stuttering and losing my train of thought because of my nervousness, but I pushed through and was able to learn her name (lets call her A), what she is hoping to do with her stay at this college, and basically was able to actually meet her.
After that, I told I had to get back to class and that I looked forward to talking to her some other time (I think? Everything kind of went fast, but I remember it coming out sorta that way).
I walked off kind of laughing at myself for how socially inept I must have seemed, but overall I was happy that I got up and did it. Now I am having anxiety about seeing her again, but deep down I know I just need to force myself to talk to her if only to stimulate a change in my approach skills.
Anyways, any advice is welcome, specifically towards mitigating anxiety for further interactions.
Overall, a good day.
