Long ass field report below.
I am definitely a newbie to cold-approaching people slash relationships (been in two my entire life).
Last Saturday night I went out with two buddies to go to a music festival and bar-hopping.
At the music festival there were plenty of cute girls, but like any newbie I kept on coming up with excuses/chickening out.
Finally while we were riding the subway back I noticed two girls (one a brunette and another a dirty blonde both pretty cute) standing next to me, one of them was holding a Domino's pizza box. Listening in on their conversation they were both clearly European. After working up the guts, I started conversing with the one holding a pizza box, asked her why they were bringing pizza from downtown, and whether they knew about the local/better alternatives in the city. After chatting with them for a few minutes my anxiety crept up and I just chickened out.
Later on in the night, we were at a Tiki bar and I spotted these two girls (8.5 and 7) conversing with each other, looking slightly bored. I moseyed over, started talking with the 7 (using the strategy of chatting with the less hot one). My opener was "Hey I don't believe we've met yet my name is ____." My excuse for introducing myself was "Hey I saw your dance moves over there" (one of them had been shoulder-shimmying to the bar music). After bsing for a few minutes I invited them out to go to a dance club with me and my buddies, but got the "that sounds interesting" so I just assumed that was a polite "no". Even though the above details sound pitiful, for me this is a HUGE amount of progress.
In retrospect here are the improvements I think I should have made.
-Not quit so fucking early! Get a definitive rejection.
-Keep eye contact/maintain conversation. (any ideas/tips for this?)
-Get different drinking buddies that are more engaged! My drinking buddies that night were more interested in just talking with each other and moping.
