I say "first" sarge because I've previously gone out with friends having the intention of hitting on girls, and then just not done it.
I arrived at the club to find it was much more crowded than I'd expected. I'd figured I could walk up to a girl and say something, and then try and get her to dance... but everyone was already dancing. So instead of approaching anyone, I just started to dance as well. Not a great start.
(I now realise that if I wanted to find people not dancing, I probably should have left the dance floor.)
But before long I noticed a girl nearby giving me looks. I'm not very good at interpreting these things, but I decided they probably meant something along the lines of omg you are super hot take me now. So after hesitating longer than I should have, I grabbed her hand and we started dancing together.
We were just holding both hands, moving them about a bit, I spun her a few times. After a few minutes she asked my name; I told her, she told me mine. I almost asked her course, but decided that would be boring, and she probably asked because I was going too slowly, so it would be better to physically escalate.
I wasn't quite sure how to draw her in for a kiss when we were holding hands, but then I realised I could move my hands to her shoulders/back, and she moved hers to mine, and then we were a lot closer together. Then after just a little bit more hesitation I leaned down, got my lips on her cheek, decided that wasn't quite right, fumbled around a bit, and we started to make out.
(It's the second time I've pulled, but the first time it would be more accurate to say someone pulled me: she grabbed me and started shoving her tongue in my mouth and I had no idea what was going on at first (I think I remember wondering if she was trying to move an avocado from her mouth to mine). I was eighteen and mostly sober at the time.)
I have no idea if I was a good kisser or not. After a while she broke off, gave me a small wave, and walked away with her friends. Her body language still seemed friendly, so I can't have been too bad.
After that things went less well. Two girls that I approached and offered my hand to just rejected me outright. Another girl gave me IOIs and I started dancing with her like the first, but when I tried to move to her shoulders/back she broke off and walked away. She gave me a hand signal while she was leaving, holding up her forefinger, but I don't know what it meant. And at one point I was dancing with an mff set, and I elbow-swung them a bit, but I couldn't decide which of the girls' hands to grab (read: I had an easy excuse for not doing anything), and then they left.
But the failures don't bother me as much as I would have expected, possibly because of that early success. Having that initial attraction probably makes it easy mode, but it's still an accomplishment and also it means I unlocked easy mode, which can't be a bad thing.
Note: I don't think of myself as attractive. I might be wrong. (I'm not even good at evaluating girls' hotness, so I'm not sure why I'd trust my opinion of myself.) I have acne and acne scars on my upper body, which influences my opinion but people in clubs obviously don't see them. The acne on my face is also less obvious in club lighting. I was probably quite well-dressed, thanks to my housemate recently taking me clothes shopping (my own fashion sense is too weak to confidently judge this for myself). I'm not afraid of dancing by myself, but I'm not sure how good my dancing is (I do try to make sure I move my hips a lot), and I sometimes have difficulty remembering to smile.
