I found a trendy beer only bar near me I've been wanting to try for some time. Yelp had a disproportionaly high level of girl check in's to guys and I'm about a quarter of the way through Tyler Durden's blueprint, and I was coincidentally feeling really confident and sexy in my favorite shirt so I got psyched up and decided to give it a try.

I show up to the bar, feeling good, not at all nervous. The place is dim, not just dim but dark. I could not read the menu for drinks and ended up just pointing to a tap. After my eyes begin to adjust I catch the problem. There are very few women in the bar who are not obviously with someone. Now I don't mean with someone as in they are sitting next to someone, I mean wearing pretty matching clothes and actively petting each other, making out etc. It almost felt like the twilight zone.

I spot two groups of three girls, go for an approach for the first one on approach I notice they are all at least 40 years old. I'm not interested, but I try to strike up a conversation anyways, who knows maybe they'll be fun to talk to. They are dumb as sticks. I get bored and move on. An [8] walks by me about two times, but I only catch her out of the corner of my eye and she seems to be in a hurry.

The other group of girls seems to be moving every few minutes. I grab a seat and they come over and sit next to me. I say "Hi" and one of them say's Hi back and then turns her back to me. These girls are [6], [5], and [7] (but being bitchy to her friends). I thought about negging the bitchy one, but nothing came to mind.

The [8] walks by me again, I say "You appear to be lost". She stops dead in her tracks, she turns to me and gives me a cute smile and laughs "No," she says, "I'm just trying to make sure everything is going ok". "Oh do you work here?", "I booked the gig for tonight, I got to go" and she leaves. The group of girls leaves too.

I head back to the bar for another drink and some nuts. The girl next to me is somewhere between a [6] and a [7], in the light it's hard to tell. She is kind of bitching to her friend about the drink selection. I suggest a beer to her and we begin talking. She tells me she doesn't like beer, so I tell her she's in the wrong place then. She shrugs, "tell me about it". I start getting some IOIs, but I'm not really looking at her all that intently and am more focused on the band. I say I saw a girl drinking a fruity beer, she might want to try that. She says she loves that beer, but it's $8 and almost no alcohol so she didn't want to buy one for herself. Now I know she's trying to get me to pay for a drink. I don't play along. She turns her back to me. (I should have suggested we go to another bar). I have a conversation with another guy there for a bit. Kind of boring conversation. It's getting late I'm feeling kind of drunk and the band is finishing their last set, so I close out my tab.

The [8] comes behind the bar again to talk to the bartender. She sees me and says hi, I smile at her and tell her the band is good. She say's thanks, but the turn out isn't that great. She turns around to leave but then turns back around and tells me her name. I tell her mine and she tells me she'll be here again on the following Tuesday and she shouldn't be quite as busy.

I initiate some kino by putting my hand on the [7]'s back and tell her to go ahead and order something already. She smiles and laughs and says "Ok I will". (Again I should have suggested we go to the other bar). Then I say goodbye. I thought about trying for a number or something, but I decided honestly I wasn't all that interested and I had done what I came to do, which was get comfortable going out.

Strong suits: I was confident, I did not get nervous, I didn't fail the shit test and buy her the over priced drink.

Bad suits: I hesitated too much. I'm not sure what I should have done about the [8] as she was honestly the only girl in the place I was interested in. I should have suggested the [7] come with me to either the bar upstairs or across the street, both are equally trendy, and have a better drink selection.

Any other advice?
