Ok, First time field report, and a few introductions.
I just recently stumbled across this subreddit and I have to say, this is one of the largest, and best banks of game theory knowledge I have ever seen. I gotta say this place is crowd sourcing at its finest. It because of your tips that I was actually able to pull my head out of my ass about a couple of things.
For the past 2 years I've been suffering depression, low self este.... you guys know the drill. I figured the world owed me something because I went through a lot of shit. I've finally come to understand that this could not be farther from the truth. I have to take care of myself, because NO ONE is gonna do it for me. No one has the time to take care of someone else, and themselves.
Amazingly this revelation came from the one place I never expected. My work. I work in a porn store, and after constantly being surrounded by men, and women with different attitudes I've managed to start pulling together how I want to be, and how to never act.
As for the actual Field report, I went with a friend to a local dive bar. You know the kind of with darts, pool, and the bartender who can remember your face, and drink choices well. Its definitely a conversational location, which is where I excel. I didn't really take the time to approach anyone though. I managed to pull my friend in with a group that we've hung out with in the past, but nothing major in approach.
Instead I took the time to watch the people in the bar. Who was talking to whom? How were they interacting? Were the ones who were flirting dressed a certain way?
After a while I began to notice something interesting. A pattern. One that I've never seen before. That every action a person makes towards another is evaluated. Whether that is conscious, or subconscious, I do not know. All I know is that everything is observed and measured in what I once thought was nothing more than a game of chance. I now understand that you have to find out who you fit with, and figure out what I can do to show them interest.
The biggest thing I think I've learned though is that you can't go at it from the mind set of "I'm here to get laid." Doesn't work, and everyone can tell. Just go do fun things that you enjoy, and eventually people will look at you with interest. If you enjoy games, go to a barcade. If reading is more your speed, do not hesitate to talk to a clerk, or someone nearby.
I'm looking forward to submitting many more reports in the future. I look forward to the feedback, and to tracking my own progress as I constantly strive to be the person I want to be.
