As a child I was always obsessed with constellations. At one point I knew several dozen constellations which I could identify and talk about. This list is now down to about 4, but this knowledge turned a possible failure into a success for me.

I was at a party, talking to a girl I had never met before. Her and I were outside with a few other people while most of the party was indoors. She was giving me a few IOI's but nothing major. As everyone outside began migrating inside I grabbed her hand and led her to a bench the host had outside. She sat down with me but pulled her hand away and started physically closing herself off. I tried making small talk but she didn't seem very receptive. I'm not sure if I was misreading the initial IOI's or if something changed within her but that's not really the point and it doesn't really matter for this field report.

She stood up and started walking inside when I, as a last-ditch effort said from the bench "Do you know anything about astronomy?" I think the randomness of this got her attention as she turned around and took a few steps towards me. "Not much," she responded. "I know Orion's belt but that's pretty much it."

I stood up and walked towards her saying "I'll show you some stuff." I proceeded to show her a few things. I started with the Big Dipper (pretty basic) and then showed her how she could use the Big Dipper to find the Northern Star. At this point I was behind her pointing at stuff over her shoulder. This was a great way to initiate the kino that I had pretty much lost earlier in the night. At this point she was much, MUCH more receptive to kino and the such than she had been on the bench. I showed her one more constellation, the Gemini Twins, and briefly explained the mythology behind it. While I was explaining the myth I went for the kiss.

The rest of the night was fairly typical; we made out for a while and I got her number (she actually offered it) and we went back inside. The party ended soon afterwards.

This actually helped me do another number close with a different girl the same night, but that's not really the point of this FR. I'll share if there's interest though.

TL;DR: Learn some constellation and use them as a method of DHV/kino.
