So I've been a lurker/occasional poster on seddit for half a year now. Starting as an extremely shy guy, I could only approach strangers from a purely functional point of view. (e.g. just ask them directions or whatever) However, I've lately been trying to apply the materials I read here.

So to the field report. I had last week a conference with big names from industry and academia. These guys were group leaders, professors, executive officers and I was one of the few students there. It was quite a frightning experience because these guys could help your carreer... or break it. So I was quite reluctant and didn't feel like talking to them. They were way older, more experienced and had higher status. And I? I was just a student, a nobody.

But then I realized this was where I could apply the principles of seddit. You only live once, you have to get out of your comfort zone to be succesful. They are just humans like I am. So I did. I talked to a few of them and because we had a common interest (subject of the conference), it was actually quite easy. In fact, I even made some small talk and such while I usually regard it as superficial. But even then, after I went back to my hotel the last day, I didn't have anything. No e-mails, no contacts etc. I felt quite shit and took a vow that next time, I would pay special attention to getting something out of it.

But then, I got a second chance. Because when I had to fly back home, I got stuck there for quite some hours and met some of these people again. We chatted for a while and then they had to leave for their plane. I knew this was breaking point. It was all or nothing. So I said goodbye to them... and since I had nothing to lose, I asked them for their contact details. It worked and I got them. It wasn't that bad after all.

And I realize they are not girls or anything, I still have trouble approaching girls I really like. But it's the first step on a journey of thousand miles. Seduction can be applied on everything.

TLDR: Seddit principles applied on carreer. Realized this was an opportunity I should not let fly by. Gathered courage, got second chance. Worked out suprisingly well

So the lesson? Realize you only live once. Yes, #YOLO indeed. You are the only one who can change anything, who can improve your own life. If you don't do it, nobody will. And they were right. JUST DO IT.
