Firstly, I was cringing reading this - but hey, we've all been there. There's only one way to find out whether it's recoverable or not, and that is to give it a shot.

Now for some brutal honestly (sorry friend). You seem to have a fear of escalating physically, and displaying your intentions honestly. This kind of hindering behavior communicates subtly a level of neediness and low-self perception. Women like men who are confident and love themselves enough to show their intentions unabashedly. NickTDS just posted this excellent article, which I think may help, I highly recommend it.

Well, ive gone from nothing more than a hug on the second date to multiple rounds of sex on the third. But I really pulled a miracle there. It's not impossible, but it's tough. As the other commenter said, you've basically got to get past the fear and do it. Shes on something resembling a date with you, you're both having a bit of fun together.. Do you think she is going to be surprised or offended or disgusted if you start to get physical? In my case, while I dont recommend doing this, I told the girl via message that I was a bit shy. Turns out she had obviously noticed that and had been worried it was something she was doing that was making me nervous. So she didnt really know I am shy, nervous and inexperienced - it's only me in my head that lets all that come to the surface! So dont second guess yourself, if you want to do something, do it.

On the cheek kiss though, did she turn to the cheek at the last second? I'd have tried something like 'come on, that wasnt good enough' and gently turn her head and go in for a mouth kiss. You cant get anything if you dont risk rejection. Worst case she would pull back / find an excuse to bail, best case you just pashed a hottie!

Edit: advice applies to future attempts as you might be beyond salvaging this one. No harm in trying again though as it could have been a lot more awkward. If she likes you then I'm sure you've got another chance left..
