A common theme on my dates is that I am told girls don't feel much romantic connection, despite the good conversation. I am above average intelligence and average looks so this isn't much of a surprise.

I normally go to bars with my date and talk around the subjects recommended on here: family, occupation, recreation, dreams. When interesting things pop up from those kind of questions I just let the conversation go off on a tangent and say whatever I feel like. I don't normally give any compliments as I don't want to put her on a pedal stall.

I struggle to do much touching except an awkward hug on meeting and kiss on the cheek after leaving (which is normally less awkward!). In between, it's hard to find a reason to touch and other times the girl sits the other side of the table.

Any advice:

1) Does the romantic spark come from touching or conversation?

2) If it is conversation, do I need to focus on any topics?

3) If it is touching, how do I naturally touch in conversation?
