This doesn't end in a phone number, but in a lesson, so bare with me and I felt the need to document, if only for my sake.
Picture this, me, just done at the gym this afternoon, headphones still on, walking back to my apartment a few blocks away for a shower and to go on with the rest of my busy Thursday. Three absolute smokeshows at the corner heading in the opposite direction, out for an afternoon in the sun. I was so busy thinking about the rest of my shit to do, that I barely noticed them, but when I did, oh man, I couldn't believe how attractive each subsequent girl was.
SO, they're about to cross the street to their left, my right, heading away from me, and it looks like the tall blonde (whose Leica hung around her neck) looked like she really wanted to snap a pic, but the crosswalk had just turned on. Startled by how hot the three of them were, I noticed this, but it took me a while to process and by then they were already mid-crosswalk and I was too far down the sidewalk. But! Beat myself up for it? No way, how to do better next time?
I could have just ripped my headphones off and asked if they wanted me to take a photo the instance I noticed the blonde start to take off the camera from her neck (and was in the right spot to ask this, not yelling across the street or running back towards them). I find that opening is always the hardest part for me—the talking and thinking on my toes to make conversation isn't hard, it's just starting the conversation period.
My advice to anyone who's reading and to myself for next time is, just go with the instinct! The thought process, especially in times like this (i.e.: not so much in a club or bar where you have a bit more time to prepare and psych yourself up) gets in the way—just jump in. Don't be startled or taken aback by the hotness. In fact, eye on the prize, know that if you're successful in starting a conversation, you'll get to really take a good look and appreciate them/her up close. The worst that happens is they would have declined the request for help and I got to smile at three cute girls on my walk home. Lesson learned.
Good luck out there!
