i'm a senior (12th grade) in the gifted program. i'm a beginner to all of this and i was just wondering if i could get some pointers. well, i've been pretty dorky up until the last year when I started to actually get legitimately interested with girls. This year I finally got the guts to talk to a girl that I'm genuinely interested in. so during the end of last year and the beginning of this year, she and her best friend used to tease me, asking what my name was. I was a nervous shit and didn't respond or engage. This year I realized it was a bad move and engaged. I'm really socially awkward and I find it difficult to talk to girls and maintain eye contact. Anyways, I mustered the courage to smile (albeit a little creepily) and she started to smile/giggle. We started to talk (she told me to add her on Facebook etc.) As I've stated multiple times earlier, I really suck with girls. We started to talk on Facebook, about retarded stuff (I’d argue about how dogs are superior to cats and stuff) and occasionally teased her. For a few days, she started to talk to me on her own (on Facebook), meanwhile at school I occasionally engaged with her and at other times facepalmed (jokingly at her) when she tried talking to me. Semi-formals occurred a couple of weeks ago, and our schools Facebook event, she said not attending. I was surprised at this because she’s considerably social (I’m assuming she had a crush on a guy?). Anyways I asked her why she wasn’t coming, but he never gave a straight answer. She then asked if I wanted to be her date (but I really couldn’t tell if she was being genuine or teasing). I also didn’t want to get rejected etc. and talked about how I was a ‘socially awkward gifted kid’ and played it off. My friends on MSN told me she was flirting with me but I never really got the feeling. Following that we kind of just stopped talking, I think. Turns out she did come to Semi. I never did really try to talk to her and just sat down watched her slow-dance with some other guy. Yes, I was jelly. Anyways, what went wrong, assuming anything did happen? Am I just a retard?
