if you're not entertaining, no one will be interested in you. good tip i found was that if you have a story, make it interesting. Instead of saying "I walked up the sistine chapel steps to the top, was pretty cool" say "i walked up about a thousand steps to get to the top of sistine chapel and the view was ridiculous. absolutely amazing, you don't realise how good it is till you go there; pictures don't do it justice". Just try to make it genuine and explain little details to make people feel they were there and experience the story. tell them how excruciating it was walking up those steps, and stepping outside to see rome at night with the cool breeze and how it was worth it in the end blah blah blah

If I'm in a group of people and someone is "telling stupid stories and rude jokes and comments", I respond to the last thing they said with a sarcastic "oh yeah?" Example; Guy: "Blah blah blah" Me: "Oh yeah???" Everyone laughs at the guy, now the attention is on you and off him, and it breaks up his command of the conversation.

The best way to take control of a conversation is to not take control of the conversation. Don't try and be the center of attention, simply add to whatever the conversation is. Not everything you say has to make you look good. Just pay attention to what everyone else has to say, genuinely be interested, and add your thoughts and opinions to it.
